Today marks an important day, the 'World Day'. Every year 22nd of March is observed as 'World Water Day' to highlight the importance of Water - the elixir of life. ‘Water and Wastewater’, is the theme of this World Water Day 2017 which focuses on the symbiosis between water and wastewater in the quest for sustainable development.
In this regard, NGO Siruthuli has organised an event in the city to sensitize the public of Coimbatore on the importance of water. A vehicle has been deployed to tour the city and educate the people on water conservation, rain harvesting methods, astonishing facts about Noyyal River and alarming water facts through a video presentation.

This morning the event was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) S. Saravanan at Race Course in the presence of Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, Siruthuli and other representatives of the NGO and public.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) S. Saravanan conveyed his World Water Day wishes to the people of Coimbatore. He stressed that water crisis is an emerging problem in the city and people should pay more focus to conserve water for a better today and tomorrow. He extended his appreciations to NGO Siruthuli for their tireless contribution in creating awareness among the people on water conservation and preserving our water bodies.

Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, Vanitha Mohan greeted the people on the World Water Day and apprised that an App named 'My Siruthuli' has been launched to pool in volunteers for the activities organised by Siruthuli. Through the App, the users can know the schedule of events well ahead and plan to participate. She also emphasized on the need for water conservation and importance of water bodies.

Water samples from various water bodies like Selvachinthamani Kulam, Valan Kulam, Singanallur lake, Periyakulam, Muthannan Kulam, Regular tap water were on display to educate the people on the level of contamination. A rain harvesting model was also shown real-time to the people to instill in them the importance of harvesting rain water.

The vehicle will tour to the following places: (timings tentative)
1. Race Course : 7 - 9am
2. Ukkadam : 10 - 11am
3. GH : 11 - 12pm
4. Gandhipuram : 2 - 3pm
5. Saibaba Colony : 3 - 4pm
6. Brookefields : 5 - 7pm
