Two-day exclusive expo for eco-friendly bags to be hosted in Corporation Kalaiarangam, RS Puram.

World-wide plastic wastes have turned out to be a major threat to the environment. Be it on land, waterways or ocean, these plastic wastes are preying on the goodness of nature. The devastating effects of plastic wastes on the environment is very alarming which indicates that it is high time people switch over to alternatives and put an end to the usage of plastic bags. Disposal of plastic wastes is turning to be a huge menace to the Corporation, as tons of plastic wastes from households and commercial complex is dumped on a daily basis.

Despite knowing the ill-effects of plastic bags, people opt to use those bags for 'Convenience'. Carrying bags for shopping is termed as 'outdated' but with these levels of plastic accumulation the world itself could go 'outdated' in a short span of time. Apart from laziness, one other reason for people holding tight to use of plastic bags is  lack of knowledge on the available alternatives.

In a bid to address the plastic menace and to sensitize people on the alternatives available, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) along with representatives of My Shopping My Bag, Swachh Bharat Ambassadors and Swachh Women Wonders is organizing an exhibition to showcase eco-friendly products in replace plastic bags. This two-day expo will be hosted on 25th and 26th March at the Corporation Kalaiarangam, RS Puram.

Raveendran, Secretary of RAAC while speaking about the expo to us shared that "For the very first time in Coimbatore, an expo exclusively for eco-friendly bags is been hosted. Eco-friendly and reusable shopping bag manufacturers from Mumbai, Bangalore and from parts of Tamil Nadu will showcase their products in this expo. Bags made out of paper, cloth, jute and edible cutlery will be on display.

The growing menace of plastics in the city has been the drive for us to devise an expo of this kind. Though, people would want to change over to alternatives, they are unaware of the availability of the alternatives and from where they can procure it. This expo will definitely be an eye-opener for the public as they not only can learn about eco-friendly bags but also can create a earning opportunity out of this, as few exhibitors are looking out for franchisees for their products.

Corporation has supported our endeavor by providing us the RS Puram Kalaiarangam free of cost for the expo'. Mr. Raveendran said.

The expo will be open from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm at Kalaiarangam in RS Puram.
