Tourists Flock to Azhiyar Kaviyar Falls near Pollachi, Causing Traffic Snarls

The continuous holidays and the New Year have led to an influx of tourists at Azhiyar Kaviyar Falls near Pollachi, causing traffic jams on the Valparai road. Tourists, including children, enjoyed bathing in the falls, but raised concerns about the lack of safety measures.

Coimbatore: The Azhiyar Kaviyar Falls, located near Pollachi on the Valparai road and part of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, witnessed a surge in tourist arrivals due to the ongoing mid-term exams break and New Year holidays.

The area, also known as Kurangaruvai, has become a popular spot for visitors from various districts of Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, Erode, and Salem, as well as from the neighboring state of Kerala.

Tourists enjoyed bathing in the falls with their children, bringing joy and excitement.

However, concerns were raised about the lack of safety measures like protective barriers or fencing at the falls, leading to a sense of fear while bathing.

Moreover, the increased number of visitors has resulted in traffic congestion on the Valparai road. To manage the situation, the Forest Department, under the leadership of Forest Officer Pugazhendi, has deployed anti-poaching guards to regulate traffic and ensure smooth flow.

Tourists have also requested the Forest Department to install safety barriers to secure the area for visitors, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures at the tourist spot.

The rise in tourist numbers highlights the popularity of Azhiyar Kaviyar Falls, but also underscores the challenges in managing visitor safety and traffic during peak seasons.
