Coimbatore based First Kick School of Soccer have brought laurels to the city, as students from this academy will be participating in Mecup 2017 tournament, Barcelona.
After contesting in National level tournaments with professional teams from various parts of the country, this team packed with spirited young boys from First Kick School will play against teams from Barcelona.
Speaking to us, Saravanan, Coach and Founder of First Kick School of Soccer apprised on the upcoming tournament and his team.
'It is a moment to cherish for our academy and indeed a great platform for the budding players from our school. They will real-time see the professionalism and sportsmanship of globally recognised teams. Hence, this tournament will teach them a lot. The Ma Coup 2017 tournament begins on April 12 to April 17th.
Out of the three categories, our team will be participating in the under 11 and 13. 15 students will represent the under 11 category and 18 students will represent the under 15.
Top teams like Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, CSK and many more teams from EU Club, Asian Club are scheduled to take part in this tournament.
Myself along with our team will leave to Barcelona on 9th April. Once we reach Barcelona, our students will visit the famed Barcelona football ground, where players like Messi have performed. Undeniably, it will be a lifetime experience for these budding players.
Students participating in the Under 11 will face teams like Arsenal, Manchester United etc, all the kids participating will be provided certificates with FIFA logo. Recognition of this kind will be helpful in academics too.
Unlike the under 11 which is a grass root programme, students who out perform in Under 13 will be choosen by top clubs for providing extensive training along with scholarships'. Saravanan said.
When questioned about support and sponsorship for his team, he shared that "40 of us are travelling from our club to Barcelona. Parents of the kids have been extending great support to accomplish this task.
However he haven't had the time to look out for sponsorship as the it was all decided in a very short notice. But luckily one of the student has got a Sponsor from URC Construction. But with the support of sponsorships, sure these children will go places!' Coach, Saravanan said.
