The western ghats is the home for many wild animals and rare species of birds. Out of which a few species are already in the cusp of extinction. Today, a leopard was found dead under mysterious circumstance at Aarnarkadu Village, Anaikati, Tamil Nadu- Kerala.
Next to the carcass of the leopard, a calf was also found dead. Hence, the forest officials are investigating in the angle if the calf was set as a bait to kill the leopard.
A couple of months back, half a dozen of cattle were killed by a leopard in the same village. Hence, it is suspected that if the calf could have been poisoned and used as bait to kill the leopard, however only after detailed analysis of the body parts of the leopard, the exact reason of death could be ascertained, said forest officials.
The death of the leopard was saddened the environmentalists and forest officials of this region as already the species is nearing extinction.
