'Seemai karuvelam' (prosopis juliflora) trees are proven to be a major threat to water conservation. The drought resistant trees are spread across widely in barren lands and along the shores off water bunds, this species of trees grasp abundant water from the grounds and also reduce the moisture content in the air.
District Collector TN Hariharan has ordered to remove 'Seemai Karuvelam' (prosopis juliflora) tree across the city. In this regard, Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan has advised the officials of Corporation to remove the Seemai Karuvelam trees from all reserve sites pertaining to the Corporation.

Today, at Ward No:8, the corporation staff were involved in removing the Seemai Karuvelam trees from empty plot belonging to the Corporation in Thadagam, Velandipalayam and Kovilmedu area.
'This drive will continue till all Seemai Karuvelam trees are removed from the Corporation sites', said Corporation Commissioner.
