On 13 March, a 40-year old, P.Dhamotharan, Hotelier by profession and a resident of Kulur Village in Erode met with an accident near Erode bus stand. In this hit and run case, victim Dhamotharan sustained severe head injury, following which he was rushed to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) Erode for treatment.
A day later he was shifted to KMCH, Avanashi road, Coimbatore for critical treatment. Failing to respond to treatment, he was declared brain-dead, yesterday.
Family of Damodaran willingly came ahead to donate his organs. Team of doctors from KMCH and Coimbatore Government Hospital (GH) swung into action and completed the statutory requirements and harvested Dhamotharan’s heart, liver, kidneys and eyes.
The harvested liver and both kidneys were transplanted to the needy patient's at KMCH, eyes and skin were sent to private hospitals at Coimbatore and heart was sent to a private hospital at Chennai. Thus, Dhamotharan gave a lease of life to seven others.
