This morning, the second platform of the Coimbatore Railway junction froze in shock as a passenger who was about to board the Intercity train from Coimbatore to Chennai slipped off and fell into the tracks sustaining grievous injuries to his hand.
Poomari from Rameshwaram was in a hurry to board the Intercity Train that leaves to Chennai. Unexpectedly, Poomari slipped and fell in the gap between the platform and the train leaving his hand amputated.
Appalled by this incident, the passengers screamed in fear and pulled off the chain to stop the train. Though the train stopped within a few minutes, it has been reported that the passenger's hand was completely amputated.
The Railway police rushed Poomari to the Government Hospital for critical treatment. Despite, the railway authorities urging the passengers not to board while the train is in a moving state, such accidents seems to be ceaseless.
