27-year-old Muthu Krishnan, a M.Phil student at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) from Salem, Tamil Nadu was found dead on by hanging himself on Sunday evening at a house in Munirka Vihar. Muthu Krishnan, was a active member of Justice for Rohith Vemula Movement.

His death has sent shock waves amongst the students, as he is also a Dalit student and the student has expressed his state of feelings through his face book wall by posting 'When equality is denied everything is denied" before his death. This face book post of Muthukrishnan has stirred the thoughts of students who demand a thorough probe on his death.
In this regard, students from Indian Student Association in Coimbatore gathered at the District Collectorate's consumer cell office and staged an unprecedented protest. The students raised slogans alleging increasing death of students due to caste-based discrimination and pointing fingers at the central government for staying tight-lipped about such incidents.
The protesting students courted arrest, who also apprised that they would intensify their protests state-wide, if justice is denied.
Police said that he was suffering from depression. Police are investigating the incident.
