AIADMK Councillor Prabhakaran barred from attending 3 meetings - Mayor Kalpana's order

A meeting of coimbatore corporation councillors was held at Victoria Hall yesterday. AIADMK Councillor Prabhakaran was disruptive and the Mayor banned him from attending the next three meetings.

Coimbatore: A resolution has been passed to allocate Rs 48.80 lakh per annum for the maintenance of corporation offices. Alleging that the price allocated was too much, the AIADMK councillor created a disruption which led Mayor Kalpana to ban AIADMK councillor Prabhakaran from attending the next three meetings.

A meeting of the councillors of Coimbatore Corporation was held at Victoria Hall under the chairmanship of Mayor Kalpana yesterday. At the meeting, AIADMK corporator Prabhakaran of ward 47 said that a resolution was passed to allocate Rs 48.80 lakh per annum for the maintenance work of the corporation office. The price is too much. Therefore, this resolution should be put on hold, he said.

Responding to this, Mayor Kalpana said: The amount that you allocated during the previous regime is the same as you have been allocated now. There is nothing to criticize. However, AIADMK corporator Prabhakaran did not accept the mayor's reply and continued to speak with the intention of disrupting the meeting.

Following this, Mayor Kalpana ordered a ban on AIADMK corporator Prabhakaran from attending the next three corporation meetings, alleging that he had obstructed the functioning of the House.

Earlier in the day, AIADMK corporator Prabhakaran stood in front of the meeting hall holding a banner containing the demand. During the AIADMK regime, the players who were practising at the corporation's indoor stadium were allowed to train free of cost. But now he is protesting against the decision to charge for it, he said.
