Coimbatore Corporation to be awarded first prize by Union Govt. in September for its outstanding work in Smart City Project

Coimbatore Corporation has been selected for the first prize in the Built Environment Category for the effective implementation of the renovation and upgradation works of several tanks such as Valankulam, Periyakulam, Kurichikulam, Muthanna Kulam, as well as the roads in the R S Puram and Race Course areas as part of the Smart City Project.


Coimbatore: The Union Government has awarded Coimbatore Corporation with the first prize for its outstanding work as part of the Smart City Project.

In a statement, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner, M Prathap said, "The Coimbatore Smart City, ISAC (India Smart City Award Contest) Awards 2022 have been announced today by the Director, Smart City Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Government of India. Coimbatore Smart City has bagged the first prize in the built-in environment category. Coimbatore has been selected for this award for its outstanding performance in the construction of best model roads in areas such as R S Puram, Race Course Road, rehabilitation and improvement of various tanks including Valankulam, Periyakulam, Kurichikulam, Muthanna Kulam, etc."

A total of 88 proposals were submitted for the award from 52 cities across India. Coimbatore has also bagged the first prize in the Southern Region of India in the Award for Best Smart Cities in The Project Process. The awards are conferred to the best cities, best projects and innovative projects implemented to encourage the implementation of smart city projects in the cities.

The awards will be presented by the President of India at a ceremony to be held on September 27 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It is to be noted that Tamil Nadu secured the second position at the national level in the inter-state examination for the implementation of smart city plans,: added the CCMC Commissioner.
