Coimbatore City Corporation is determined to further intensify their encroachment drive until all encroached reserve sites are retrieved in all five zones of the Corporation. In October, 2016, Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan announced about their Encroachment drive and plans to convert the retrieved sites into utility places for the public by creating parks and herbal nurseries. Since then, the pace of the encroachment drive has been going on at full swing retrieving close to 20 acres of land in all five zones worth Rs. 223.30 Crores.
'In two days, i.e 10th and 11th March 2017, we have retrieved 65.04 cents worth Rs. 5 Crores in North, West and Central Zones. The encroachment drive had officials from the Corporation and Town Planning department who have ear-marked all encroached sites across the five zones. In the drive that took place on 10th and 11th of March, reserve sites were retrieved from Vadavalli (West Zone), EKJ Nagar, Saravanampatti (North Zone), Chinnasamy Road, Siddhapudur and Dr. Nanjappa Road belonging to the Central Zone. And, as informed earlier, post this encroachment drive Corporation along with Town Planning Department will devise plans to set gardens and nurseries at these reserve sites to benefit the residents' said Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan.
