To tackle the challenge of ticketless travelling, Southern Railway is taking effective steps by way of regular and surprise ticket checkings in trains and fortress checkings in Railway Stations.
One such mass ticket checking drive was undertaken on 5.3.2017, under directions from Sri Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, Salem. In this mass drive, a whopping amount of Rs.2,47,025/- was realized by way of ticket fare, parcel charges and penalty Of these, 546 persons were booked for travelling without proper ticket and an amount of Rs.2,43,325/- was realized from them as ticket fare and penalty. 12 cases were registered for carrying luggages unbooked, and an amount of Rs.4,700/- was realized as luggage charges and penalty. This is the highest amount realized by way of ticket checkings in a single day, since the inception of Salem Division. The earlier highest realization was Rs.2,10,400/- during 2016.
Checks were conducted by 216 ticket checking staff including 18 members of squads, in major stations such as Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Coimbatore. 17 ticket checking staff and 4 RPF staff were engaged in ticket checkings in trains such as T.No.13352-Alleppey Dhanbad Express, T.No.16359, Ernakulam-Patna Express, T.No.12512-Trivandrum Gorakhpur Express, T.No.22582 Mangaluru-Satragachi Express, etc.
Sri Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, appreciated the steps taken by Sri Vijuvin, Sr.Divisional Commercial Manager, and his team of officers and staff in tackling the issue ticketless travelling. He further said that such mass drives would be conducted on a regular basis in Salem Division.
