Padma Bhushan Dr.A.Sivathanu Pillai recently inaugurated first-of-its-kind Innovation Centre at the PSG iTech campus. He appreciated the efforts of the students and institution while inaugurating the Innovation Centre. He urged the students to come up with new ideas, so that the workable ideas can be converted into patents and products. He also requested the management to set up an office exclusively for interaction with industry.

After the formal inauguration, in his address to the students he touched upon the rich scientific background of ancient India by quoting Tippu Sultan’s rocket. “Tippu Sultan was the first person to use rockets in the battlefield and he eventually defeated British Army in 1792,. Unfortunately scientific innovation has taken a back seat.” Dr.A.Sivathanu Pillai said. He added that the Innovation Centre setup by the institute will go a long way in filling the void.
He outlined the various advancements done by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the field of satellite communications and launch vehicles, in spite of stiff Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) restrictions imposed by developed nations. He also gave the glimpse of future projects of ISRO like exploiting Helium3 as energy source, mission to Mars and Venus.
He spoke in-depth about BRAHMOS, his present organization. He outlined the superiority of Brahmos missile over its equivalents in developed nations. He ended his speech by urging the educational institutions to facilitate the students to create and innovate, so that India can become a leading nation in future, not merely a developed nation.
L. Gopalakrishnan – Managing Trustee, PSG & Sons Charities and Dr. P. V. Mohanram among others were present at this inauguration programme.
