Bharathiar University receives award for securing second rank among top best 20 institutions for project VISAKA


Adding another feather to its cap, city-based Bharathiar University received an award for securing second rank among top best 20 institutions for project VISAKA at a VISAKA National Convention at Vigyan Bhawan, that was recently hosted in the national capital. A. Ganapathi, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, received this award on behalf of the university from Minister for HRD –Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad, in the presence of Prof. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman – AICTE, K.K. Sharma, Secretary – Higher Education, R. SubrahmanyamAddl. Secretary – Higher Education, MHRD.   The Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University was accompanied by senior syndicate member Dr. S. Saravanakumar, Dr. T. Devi, Coordinator for VISAKA and volunteers.



Five best volunteers were invited by MHRD to share their experience. Dr. T. Amudha, Assistant Professor of Department of Computer Applications shared her experience in the National Convention in the presence of Minsters for HRD, IT.  “Bharathiar University records its sincere thanks to all student volunteers, research scholars, staff members, officers, faculty members for their active participation and making BU-VISAKA a grand success.” Dr. T. Amudha said.

It may be noted that from Tamil Nadu, five institutions bagged the MHRD awards of being among the top 20 best institutions with the ranks 2, 6, 12, 15 and 19. 

MHRD launched the `Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan’ as a mega campaign for digital awareness and spread from 12 Dec 2016 to 12 Feb 2017. Bharathiar University conducted the necessary programmes, helped the students to register as volunteers, conducted campaign to create awareness on digital financial literacy among the public, small traders, triggered the affiliated colleges to conduct the campaigns by actively engaging the youth and students of Higher Education Institutions. Under this project, from Bharathiar University and its affiliated colleges, 25669 students registered as VISAKA volunteers and 2,05,232 were trained to convert to digital payments through VISAKA campaigns and road shows.
