In order to preserve the water bodies in our city an awareness drive called Thaamaraiyin Thaagam Theerkum Yathirai, is being hosted in our city. This drive we are told has been initiated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Several members and loyalists of the BJP and members of the public participated in the inauguration programme of this awareness drive that was hosted this morning at the foot hills of the Velliangiri Mountains. This awareness driveis scheduled to conclude on 14 March.
Vasanthi Srinivasan, a BJP leader flagged-off this awareness drive this morning. Kumaresan Duraisamy, bettwe known by his stage name Napoleon, who was a former Central Minister and a BJP leader participated in the flag-off of this awareness drive.
The BJP leaders assured that they will help the ministers at the state level to obtain permission from the centre to implement policies and regulation towards protecting and saving the water bodies in our state. As part of today’s inaugural programme a signature campaign was also initiated. We are told that about 10-lakh signatures will be collected from the public and the same will be sent to the CM of TN. Those who are interested in supporting this cause of protecting our water bodies are invited to participate in this signature campaign.
A source shares that permission was not obtained for this programme. Thus, the police had to intervene and the programme was put on hold for some time.
