International Women’s Day was celebrated at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textile Management in Coimbatore today. V.Sarada, Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Peelamedu and P.Sudha, President, Women Business Enterprise Development Association (WOBEDA) were the chief guests for today’s celebrations. Dr. C. Ramesh Kumar delivered the welcome address.
V. Sarada, in her speech, said “Today is the International Women’s Day” and emphasised that every women should empower themselves. She told the students of this education institution that there are infinite opportunities for today’s women and they (women) need to make use of them rightly. She also asked the young women to prepare for bank exams and consider a career in banking. She also stated that bank jobs are safe and secured for women and moreover, women have the ability to balance work and home so banking sector will work for women. she said.

Sudha, shared her lifetime experiences as an entrepreneur and she educated her audience about the NGO WOBEDA that she is associated with. She quoted some living examples of successful women entrepreneurs and described the story of her embroidery unit in Coimbatore. “WOBEDA supports new ventures, provides opportunities to middle aged women to start up a business and provides them with the support by training them. We also work on helping them improve their skills and in preparing the feasibility reports.” she said
She further added that, “The main aim of WOBEDA is to create an identity for women and provide them with a platform so that they can become independent. The organisation also provides information and ideas for subsidy, marketing and policy like Make in India. she said.
