Coimbatore: Housing Board and Urban Development Minister Muthusamy and Coimbatore District In-charge Minister Muthusamy will inaugurate several projects in Coimbatore worth Rs 17.45 crore.
As a part of this, he distributed free bicycles to school students at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Ondipudur area.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Minister Muthusamy, He said projects are being implemented across Tamil Nadu for the benefit of the people on a daily basis and 567 km of roads are being constructed in Coimbatore city at a cost of Rs 260 crore. In Coimbatore district, 7,000 bicycles are being prepared and given to the students, he said, adding that others will also be provided with bicycles very soon.
He stated that there was no reason for the ED to conduct raids at minister Ponmudi's home and that the raid was premeditated. No one is going to be let down because of this," he said. He said there could not be anything wrong with Minister Ponmudi. "The ED raids cannot create fear and we can't divert our attention," he said.
He said the opposition meeting in Bengaluru, which will be attended by the Chief Minister, will go well. The Coimbatore central jail has been relocated and steps are being taken to set up a semmozhi park there, he said. "We have not said anything in a single place that we will open TASMAC shops at 7 am," he said, adding that tasmac workers can work peacefully only if the problem is resolved.
He stated that he had evaluated the petitions received from 18 trade unions to resolve the workers' difficulties and had categorically declared that they were ready to enter into an agreement with the unions on the issues to be resolved immediately and that no extra money should be paid for liquor bottles.
He stated that the first priority was to put an end to the workers' problems. "We said we're thinking about bringing the tetra pack because there are some issues with the liquor bottles," he explained. Why are they condemning him for saying that he would listen to suggestions if they were kind enough? "It will be wrong if I take half a minute of what I have said for two minutes," he explained. It is said that there is a possibility of damage to liquor bottles and adulteration, so the tetra pack will be studied and opinions will be brought in only after seeking their opinions, he said.
Tetra packs with 90 mL of alcohol are being studied, and they may or may not be available, he says. He also said that it would not be tolerated to call those who drink in the morning drunkards. Those who work hard inevitably consume alcohol, He asked them to suggest alternative ways to avoid this.He stated that he had no intention of making a large profit from TASMAC and that buying liquor illegally should be avoided at all costs. "We are studying bringing 90 ml of liquor and those who drink alcohol should be brought to our side in a phased manner to avoid waiting at the liquor shop," he said.
He indicated that talks on the small spinning mills strike were underway and that the outcome would be announced soon.
Coimbatore District Collector, Corporation Commissioner, Corporation Mayor and other officials were present on the occasion.
