The sector is providing employment directly to 50 lakh people and exists as a backbone to the Tamilnadu's and the state's economy.”
“Due to the factors like shortage of electricity for 7 years starting from 2008 in Tamilnadu, subsidies provided by the various governments to the textile companies in their state, additional expenditure on electricity, Salary, shortage of labour a majority of the textile companies are operating at a loss.”
We have to spend upto Rs.6 on lorry to buy cotton and polyester fiber. Also the manufacturer has to spend Rs.3 while selling the thread and the cloth to other states.
Tamilnadu government has increased the VAT on petrol to 34 percentage and 25 percent on diesel from existing 21.43 percentage. The price of petrol has increased Rs.3.77 per litre, and diesel price has increased Rs.1.76.
“We want to bring to the notice of the chief minister that the tax will impact the stability of the textile industry. The 5% VAT that is levied on cotton, and cotton cone thread when the central sales tax is at 2 percent and other states have zero or 2 percent of VAT. One percent tax is levied on cotton and waste cotton by the cotton and the farmers market. We want to bring to the notice of the chief minister that the Tamilnadu textile mill owners could compete with their counterparts in the other states and in other countries.”
“The irregularity in electricity supply that is happening now and shut down once in every month has lead to the textile companies using diesel generators for power generation. Increase in the diesel price will also impact the business.”
“The central government is implementing the Goods and Services Tax from July 1 we request that changes should be avoided in the present taxation system.”
“The request to reduce the VAT on Cotton cone thread and the removal of 1 percent tax collected by the farmers market group has been rejected the Sales tax commissioner in his reply he has said that requests in the change of tax will not be entertained due to the implementation of GST.”
“Former chief minister J.Jayalaitha had said that the requests will be considered on December 07 2012 when we met her with the above requests. But our requests are pending even after five years. We want to bring to the notice that a new textile policy has not been framed since 20 years.”
“Considering the state of the textile and other industries in the state and also the welfare of the people as the rise in fuel prices may lead to rise in price of goods. We request the chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy to withdraw the new tax on petrol and diesel.” says the petition sent to the chief minister by the SIMA president M. Senthilkuma
