The construction of check dams by the Kerala Government across river Bhavani at six places has been receiving condemnation from various political outfits and farmers association.
Despite, the agitations the Kerala Government continues to go ahead with their work and as a result of which the check dam at Thekuvattai has reached it's completion stage. And, the Kerala government has hastened the construction work at other areas. Although, Tamilnadu government has filed a case against the construction of these check dams in the Supreme Court, paying no heed to it the Kerala government have been continuing their work as planned.

Today, members of the non-affiliated farmers association hosted a protest in front of the Taluk office in Sulur. The protestors stated that the construction of check dams in the lower Bhavani will directly impact the farmers who are dependent on the water from River Bhavani. Also, more than 10 drinking water projects based on the Bhavani River cannot be implemented, if this check dams are constructed. they said.
Coimbatore and the other regions are very much dependent on the Bhavani River for their drinking water hence the Central Government should pass orders to stop this project without any further delay. The protestors also raised their concern over Neduvasal Hydrocarbon Project.
