There's a fire accident that's now happened in a garment shop in Trichy Road near the ICICI bank building.
The fire department has reached to try and bring the situation under control.
Initial reports reveal that the garment shop belongs to Shankar from Sivagangai District and he has been operating this shop under the name 'Haryana Handlooms'. This morning at around 9:45 am thick fumes of smoke started to emanate from the shop and in no time the entire shop caught fire. People who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the fire service, who are presently at the spot to control the fire.
The source for the fire is reported to be crackers which were stored in a place close to his godown. When enquired about it the owner of the garment shop Shankar has denied of stocking any crackers in his shop, however, he has reported that the crackers could have been stored in a lorry depot that is right behind his garment shop.
Due to this major fire outbreak, the workshop that was adjacent to the garment shop has also been completely damaged, sources say.
