Drought condition prevails in many districts across Tamilnadu due to the failure of monsoon. Nilgiris district is also impacted by the drought, resulting in drinking water crisis in several districts.
The Rallia dam which has a total storage capacity of 43.6 feet has now 31.7 feet of water. At present water is being distributed to the 30 wards of the Coonoor municipality from the Carysil dam and through lorries. Hence, there will be no water shortage in Coonoor, confirmed authorities. The municipal authorities have stated that the natives of this region need not fear about drinking water scarcity as municipal authorities are prepared to meet the demand for water with supply. In the mean time, the public is requested to use the water scarcely.
