The research scholars and the PG students of Bharathiar University hosted a protest by fasting against the irregularities in appointment of professors. They also demanded the removal of the Vice Chancellor.

Complaints were raised alleging irregularities at the Bharathiar University in the appointments of professors to the various departments of this university.As part of the protests, the PG students of the university participated in a one day fast at Vadavalli.

The protestors alleged that there are many irregularities in the appointment of as many as 76 professors to the various departments of the Bharathiar University. They said that the reservation law has not been followed in the appointment. They alleged that corruption to the tune of crores of rupees has taken place.

The protestors also stated that the persons have been appointed without considering their academic qualification or experience and also in departments which they don't have the qualification to be appointed. They also said that action has not been taken even after complaints being registered many times in the past. The protestors sought the cancellation of the appointments of such teachers and they also demanded the removal of the vice chancellor for his alleged malpractices.
