Arc Foundation launches it's second phase of Dr. Kalam Library at Corporation School for deaf, RS Puram


Coimbatore based NGO Arc Foundation along with Coimbatore Muncipal Corporation today inaugurated the second phase of Dr.Kalam Library at Corporation High School for Deaf Children in R.S.Puram.



Started in the year 2015, Kalam library aims at setting up 100 libraries at corporation and government schools, as a tribute to Dr.Abdul Kalam.

During the first phase 5 libraries were set in corporation schools in various parts of the city. A special collection drive was initiated by Arc Foundation's volunteers to collect informative books for the school children. 



In today's second phase launch, 11 libraries have been set across various corporation and government school in the city. Rotary Club of Coimbatore sponsored two of these libraries

The first library was inaugurated today by Dr.K.Vijayakarthikeyan, Corporation Commissioner. P.Gandhimathi, Deputy Commissioner Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, Anjali Ajeeth Social Activist, Jaya Mahesh, Mrs.India Earth title winner and representatives of various NGOs were present during the launch.

The library was decorated with attractive colours with books of various genres like fiction, non fictional story books, science encyclopedias and books relating to history and geography.



Dr.K.Vijaykarthikeyan after inaugurating the library interacted with the deaf students and advised them to inculcate the habit of reading more books and make use of this library to the most. He also promised the children to provide additional books with pictorial representation for better understanding.



In his address to students, he urged the students to incubate the habit of reading apart from their academics. And, reading habit should be introduced to children from the age of three, he said. And, kids should be encouraged to read more books pertaining to science as accurate understanding of science forms the basis for development of knowledge. To create a change in the society we should stay updated with the information. Hence, students should involve themselves in maintaining the book counts in the library, deriving plans to add more books and thereby make use of the library to the most, Dr. Karthikeyan said. 



Students from Corporation School for deaf showcased their talents by a mime show stressing on the ill-effects of using cell phones in schools, hospitals, temples and while driving. The kids also enthralled the audience by performing Silambattam and Thappatam, which received a great applause from the audience.
