Kalirajan, an explosive labourer from Sankarankovil, while carrying out blasting work at a private quarry in Singanallur, he tried to set himself on fire in front of the Palladam police station demanding that he get his salary dues.

Tirupur: In a shocking incident, a labourer tried to set himself on fire in front of Palladam police station demanding that he get his salary dues from a private quarry.

Kalirajan, a native of Sankarankovil in Tenkasi district, was working as an explosives labourer in a stone quarry owned by Poongodi near Singanallur in Coimbatore district.

In this case, he was offered a salary of Rs. 1,100 per month and for five days, he received only Rs. 500 as advance out of rs. 5,500 for five days. Instead of the remaining Rs 5,000, only Rs 3,300 was reportedly paid.

He had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint with the police to get the remaining Rs 1,700. Kalirajan, who went to lodge a complaint, first went to palladam all-women police station and from there sent it to palladam taluk police station and lodged a complaint with the taluk police station.

Since the place where the incident took place is Singanallur in Coimbatore district, the police have instructed them to lodge a complaint with the police station there.

Claiming that no one paid heed to his complaint, Kalirajan bought petrol for Rs 50 from a petrol pump near the police station and stood at the gate of the police station and poured petrol on his body and tried to take a bath in the fire.

Seeing this, the cops rescued Kalirajan and poured water on him and took him to the police station for questioning. Since the place where the salary issue took place is under the Singanallur police station, they have been instructed to lodge a complaint with the concerned police station. Due to the incident, there was a tense atmosphere near palladam police station for some time.
