One killed after Wild Elephant Strikes Near Coimbatore, Forest Department Offers Rs 50,000 Ex-gratia

Rajappan, a native of Thumanur in Coimbatore district, died after being attacked by a wild elephant at Anaikatti in Coimbatore district. Following this, his family was given Rs. 10,000 on behalf of the forest department. A relief of Rs 50,000 has been announced.


Coimbatore: Wildlife is active in the Coimbatore district in Anaikatti, Mangarai, and Thadagam. The movement of wild elephants is quite common here. The forest department has already cautioned motorists travelling from Mangarai to Anaikatti hill route to be very careful.

In this case, Rajappan (48), a native of Thumanur, was on his way to Chembukkarai area on a two-wheeler when he was chased by a wild elephant that came in front of him in Poothimedu area.



Rajappan, who had stumbled, was attacked by the wild elephant, killing him on the spot.

On receiving information, the forest officials reached the spot and recovered Rajappan's body and sent it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital in an ambulance. As per the instructions of the District Forest Officer, a cheque of Rs 50,000 will be given to the family of the deceased Rajappan as immediate relief.
