The Southern India Engineering Manufacturer's Association has appealed the Assistant Director General of product certification of Bureau of Standard to reduce the fee for ISI certification for the motor pumps.
SIEMA is an association of industries manufacturing electric motors, mono blocks, pumps, submersible pump sets, textile machinery, spares and parts, GI castings, steel castings, S.G. Iron castings, and other auto components. The pumps manufactured in Coimbatore are being exported globally, since 25 years.
SIEMA has cited various reasons for their request to reduce the license fee. They have pointed out that, 'The entire manufacturing industry is undergoing a crisis period since the demonetization announcement. The sale of pumps have considerably gone down, especially in North India. Farmers are reluctant to buy pumps on cash and carry basis after demonetization. While the entire industry is under so much economic crisis, increase in licensing fee is not appropriate but will further aggravate the situation'.
Hence, SIEMA has requested the Government to withdraw the increase in the BIS licence fee.
