It has been reported that the residents of Arunthathiyar colony, Varappalayam area, near Thadagam. were attacked by another group of people belonging to upper caste. About 8 persons are reportedly injured in this attack. The injured persons are admitted at the Coimbatore Government Hospital (GH) where they are currently undergoing treatment.
A verbal war between Ramesh and Ramakrishnnan residents (upper caste people) of that area broke out due to some personal issues. Pannerselvam a resident of Arunthathiyar colony is said to have condemned both the persons on their tussle.
Agitated by the condemnation, Ramesh and Ramakrishnan with 15 other people belonging to their caste attacked the people who resided in Arunthathiyar colony. Kittan, Ajithkumar, Radhamani, Poongodi, Paneer Selvam, Kanagaraj, Karuppasamy, Saravanakumar were the residents of the Arunthathiyar colony who were injured in the attack. All injured were admitted at Coimbatore GH for treatment.
The injured people and their families have alleged that people belonging to upper castes have been slamming attacks on them frequently and Thudiyalur police have been displaying lethargy in receiving and reacting to their complaints. They also requested that security should be provided to the injured people and legal action should be initiated against the attackers. Reacting to their complaint, Police have arrested 10 persons and are investigating the case.
