Massive fire breaks out at Vellalore dumpyard in Coimbatore

The garbage collected from 100 wards of Coimbatore Corporation was dumped at the Vellalore dumpyard, with grading work in progress when a fire suddenly broke out in a 1-acre area of the garbage dumpyard.


Coimbatore: Firefighters are in the process of dousing the fire which broke out at a garbage dumpyard in Vellalore.

The garbage collected from 100 wards of Coimbatore Corporation was dumped at the Vellalore dumping ground and grading work was in progress. Lakhs of tonnes of garbage that was collected was being bio-composted.



Suddenly a fire broke out in an area of about 1 acre in a part of the godown at the Vellalore garbage dumpyard.

Following this, the fire brigade personnel arrived in three fire tenders and put out the fire. Water was brought by Corporation lorries to douse the fire. Work is also underway to clear the garbage through poclain machines to prevent the fire from spreading to other places.
