About 250 people who tried to protest against the central government for ignoring Tamil Nadu river water disputes and condemning Prime Minister for participating in the programme conducted by the Isha Yoga center courted arrests.
The protest was hosted by the Bhavani river check dam construction protesting group at the South Thasildhar Office in the city. Cadres of 11 political organisation like Thanthai Periyar Drvidar Kazhagam, Tamil Nadu Anaithu vivasyigal sangam, Viduthalai Chiruthaikal party, Tamil Manila congress, Manitha Neya Makkal katchi, SDPI participated in the protests.
As they staged an unprecedented road roko, the area experienced tense situations as the agitators raised slogan condemning Prime Minister Modi and the anti-tamil stand of the central government.
When speaking to the press about the General Secretary of TPDK Ku. Ramakrishnan said, “The central government continues to act against the interests of people of Tamil Nadu which is evident from the fact that even after the supreme ordered for the constitution of Cauvery management board the central government has not constituted the board. The Central government is continuously ignoring the interests of Tamil Nadu.”
It is a proven fact that Isha Foundation have raised their buildings and structures without seeking legal permission. The bio-diversity of the Velliangiri hills have been greatly affected Isha, despite knowing these allegation PM's visit to Isha is highly condemnable' he said.
