A source at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) shares that the while dengue is under control in our city, swine influenza better known as swine flu, H1N1 virus, is claiming lives. “Currently, we have three patients who are confirmed to be suffering from swine flu (H1N1). These three patients are undergoing treatment at the CMCH in an isolated ward and are responding well to treatment.” shares this source. About 31 patients are suspected to be suffering from swine flu are also admitted at the CMCH, shared this source.
It has been reported that Sridhar from Papaniackenpudhur was admitted to a private hospital for illness, was not responding to treatment. Following which he was referred to the CMCH and he died yesterday at CMCH. This is not an isolated case of death due to swine flu in Coimbatore.
If numbers are to be believed, about seven patients diagnosed with dengue are currently admitted at the CMCH and another 24 patients who are also admitted here are undergoing tests to diagnose the fever. Since last December (2016) the number of people who have died of swine flu is 17 and another five patients who have had symptoms of swine flu have died since last December (2016).
The source from the CMCH explains “Early diagnosis and treatment can cure this disease. There are three categories of swine flu (H1N1). Category A is viral fever and patients diagnosed with category A of H1N1 virus can be treated of this disease. Patients diagnosed with category B could be suffering from swine flu or dengue. Finally patients diagnosed with Category C of the H1N1 virus may or may not respond treatment.”
With the number of patients suffering from swine flu H1N1 on the rise in our city, this source at the CMCH recommends not to treat fever lightly. “Visit the CMCH if you are suffering from fever. We will do the necessary tests and ascertain what fever you are suffering from.” says this source.
As a precautionary measure, this source recommends that we get our basics right. “Wash your hands thoroughly well before every meal. Sanitize your home regularly. Do not take over-the-counter medicines for fever.” CMCH is fully-stocked with medicines to treat swine flu, H1N1 when diagnosed at an early stage can be cured.
