Coimbatore: A rupture occurred during a test run in the Athikadavu-Avinashi Project main pipe near Annur, with water upto a height of 30 feet gushing onto the road and causing a flood.

The 6th water station of the Athikadavu-Avinashi Groundwater Concentration Project has been set up at Kunnathurampalayam near Annur in Coimbatore district. On March 19, water was directed from the 5th water loading station for the trial run. The water was released to the Kunnathurampalayam Pond through an outlet. In this case, the hydration test was carried out on one motor out of the six electric motors set up at the irrigation station, on Wednesday.

After this, the testing was carried out releasing the water in the main pipes leading to this project from Annur.

During the time of testing, there was a sudden break in the main pipe in Vadavalli Panchayat at Periya Pudur.

As a result, water gushed to a height of 30 feet on the Annur-Karamadai road forming a stagnant pond on the roadside.

Traffic was affected due to waterlogging on the road.

On information, water flow was stopped for the test run.

Similarly, there was a leak in the pipe in Kurukkiliyampalayam and Salaiyur areas causing floods on roads. Respective officials are inspecting the flooded areas and rectifying the cracks in pipelines.
