'Pillur Project 3 will soon be implemented and approval to take alluvial is granted:' Coimbatore Dist. Collector

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati took part and addressed the public in a meeting chaired by Kaniyur Panchayat President, Veluchami. After receiving petitions from the public, the Collector provided various welfare assistance to the farmers.

Coimbatore: On the occasion of World Water Day being celebrated on March 22, a special Gram Sabha meeting was held across Tamil Nadu.

With the onset of summer, various districts including Coimbatore suffer from water shortage and measures are being taken by the State Government to meet water requirements. Special village council meetings were conducted to create awareness among the people for the same.

Coimbatore District Collector, Kranthi Kumar Pati participated and addressed the public in a meeting chaired by the Kaniyur Panchayat President, Veluchami.

While addressing the public, the Coimbatore District Collector said, "The value of water and the fact that water crisis cannot be solved by the Government or officials in the future is well-known. People should mobilize and know the importance of water. The fund requirements exceed the assigned budget and hence alternatives are being taken to complete the project as soon as possible."

The District Collector further noted that the main cause of the water problem is solid waste management. He advised people to segregate garbage and hand it over to the public sanitation officer. "This process could prevent waste from entering water bodies. In this regard, biodegradable waste can be used for agriculture and non-biodegradable waste can be recycled. Single-use plastics should be strictly avoided as well as other plastic products, as much as possible," he cautioned.

Later while addressing the media, the Coimbatore District Collector advised the water storage area around the rainwater storage house to be kept clean. "As the summer season has started, there is less water in the Siruvani Dam. In this connection, Coimbatore Corporation has instructed the public to use water sparingly. A notice has been issued to fetch alluvials from the ponds. Heeding the instructions of the district administration, farmers can apply at the District Collector's office and take it," he added. Earlier, after receiving petitions from the public, the Collector provided various welfare assistance to the farmers.
