Coimbatore: "From accursed to benediction, the perception of women has evolved globally"; says Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

International Women's Day was celebrated by Lions club ( District 324 D) in collaboration with the GMCH.

The event witnessed the inauguration of the renovated auditorium which was done from donations from the members of the Lions club.

Following this, nursing students were felicitated for their service mindedness and contribution to the medical field.

Dr. Nirmala, Dean, GMCH, and Chief guest ‘Singai’ N Muthu, presided over the function. Lions Governor John Peter, 1st VDG Mohan Kumar, 2nd VDG Shanmuga Sundaram and Jothimani took part. More than 100 participants including the students and faculty took part in the event.

While interacting with Simplicity, Dr. Nirmala said that women have evolved parallel to their counterparts in every sector. Days are gone when women were denied fundamental rights including voting rights.

She said “From being accursed to benediction, perception of women has evolved globally. They have proven capable of everything and have turned into conquerors irrespective of the hardships”.

“Having a goal is the first step in progress and advancing with an action plan is a necessity. Once you have a goal, you'll be ready to face any number of challenges, which will ultimately result in success at some point", she noted.

Referring to her present position of authority, the Dean asserted that she was determined in her goal and always had the courage to face hardships.

"The rise of Covid-19 was initially a great challenge and yet I had the confidence to get through successfully. This wouldn't have been possible with one man's efforts but teamwork is imperative. Thanks to my team who went a long way to defeat the pandemic" the Dean noted.
