A major forest fire broke out at Rakkipalayam Forest Range yesterday. The fire started at around 5 pm in the evening and slowly spread to hectares of land around Kurudimalai forest. The blazing fire got furious as time went by. At around 10 pm the fire lines were seen from a much far distance as well. The forest officials are monitoring the situation and devising ways to douse the flames off. But since there is a steady breeze, the fire has been spreading it's wings faster than anticipated.
Environmentalists from the city have urged that the forest department should establish fire lines and monitor them closely to avoid miscreants setting up fire. However, the forest officials are yet to ascertain the damages caused by this outbreak.
The fuming flames were spotted by the public as well. Residents living close to the range, clicked pictures of the long stretch of forest fire and shared in many social media groups.
