Sanitation workers' strike enters third-day demanding pay hike, over 500 workers take part

The contract sanitation workers at the ESI Hospital in the city are on continuous strike for the third consecutive day demanding implementation of the salary hike as was promised earlier.



Coimbatore: Contract sanitation workers and Private security guards working at Government Medical College Hospital and ESI hospital in the city have been on a continuous strike

since August 9, demanding implementation of the daily wage hike to Rs 721 as was announced by the District collector a few months back.



More than 500 contract sanitation workers and private security guards have participated in the strike, which is continuing for the third day.



The strike, which is continuing for the third day at the ESI Hospital, has affected the usual hospital services in a big way including taking patients for emergency treatment and shifting them to various wards.

It is to be noted that the sanitation workers have been steadfast that the new pay scheme be implemented immediately by the authorities.
