Durai Vaiko participates in Samathuva Pongal at Tirupur, condemns AIADMK for forgetting its roots

In Tirupur, 5,000 women participated in the Samathuva Pongal celebrations held on behalf of MDMK. MDMK's Tirupur city District secretary Nagaraj organized the function, which was attended by MDMK Headquarters secretary Durai Vaiko.



Tirupur: It is customary to celebrate Samathuva Pongal every year on behalf of MDMK in Chamundipuram area of 24th ward of Tirupur Corporation.

Accordingly, the 25th Samathuva Pongal festival was held at Chamundipuram area yesterday which was organised by Nagaraj, councillor of the 24th ward of Tirupur Corporation and the city district secretary of MDMK.



Over 5000 women of all religions participated and celebrated Surya Pongal. MDMK . Headquarters secretary Durai Vaiko was the chief guest on the occasion.



Earlier, women from the Chamundipuram area took out a procession carrying sprouts. Following this, the MDMK flag was hoisted by Durai Vaiko and the Pongal festival was inaugurated.



As part of the function, books and saplings were distributed to the newlyweds from Chamundipuram along with Pongal sarees on behalf of MDMK. Also gifts were given to 400 women who were selected through a draw of lots.



Speaking to reporters later, Durai Vaiko said, "It is heartening to note that festivals like Pongal are an expression of the sentiments of Tamils. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko continues to promote Samathuva Pongal festival, and it is heartening to note that the MDMK functionaries are celebrating such Samathuva Pongal in a big way”.

“Samathuva Pongal festivals will symbolize the unity of the country. Not only the MDMK, but all the organisations should take forward the Samathuva Pongal festival and celebrate it” he said.

He alleged that the governor's continued diatribes against Tamil and Tamil Nadu shows that he is promoting Sanatana principles in Tamil Nadu.

Further noting he said even though AIADMK has been supporting “one nation, one election”, on BJP's insistence he said that AIADMK should not forget its roots of a Dravidian party. He asked the AIADMK leaders to contemplate on their current political stand

Durai Vaiko also demanded a proper judicial inquiry ordered into the mysterious death of a Tirupur woman who had gone to yoga training at the Isha Yoga Centre, but disappeared and died in mysterious circumstances.
