'Maattu Pongal' celebrated with traditional fervour near Ramanathapuram

On the occasion of “Maattu Pongal” being celebrated today, farmers near Ramanathapuram bathed, decorated and garlanded the cows, calves and bullocks.



Coimbatore: On the occasion of “Maattu Pongal” being celebrated today, farmers near Ramanathapuram bathed, decorated and garlanded the cows, calves and bullocks.



The farmers in Bharathi Nagar area near Ramanathapuram bathed the cows since early morning, sprinkled turmeric on the cow and placed kumkum on its forehead as a thanks giving gesture.



The owners garlanded the cow and also gave it a new tether rope.

Following this, they offered Pongal to the cow and offered prayers.

The young women who rear cows said that people should care for the cows and calves on all the days of the year, even though we celebrate “Maattu Pongal” to thank the cows and bullocks which help the farmers and humanity most.
