A Kurumba Adivasi killed after being attacked by a wild elephant near Ooty

An Adivasi was seriously injured after being attacked by a wild elephant in Mawanalla village near Ooty and was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.



The Nilgiris: The deceased has been identified as Mathan (55), a native of Mavanalla village near Ooty in the Nilgiris district. He is a Kurumba Adivasi and has been working in a private NGO.

In this situation, he went to Masinagudi yesterday evening to buy groceries for the house. He then bought the goods and walked to his house in Mawanalla.

Madan was allegedly attacked by a lone wild elephant who had come out of the forest area and came to the residential area. On hearing the sound of Madan's screams, the neighbours rushed to the spot and found him lying in a critical condition, seriously injured by an elephant.



He was immediately rescued and taken to Masinagudi primary health centre where he was treated.

In this case, Madan died tragically without any treatment. Madan's body was brought to the Ooty Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

It is to be noted that this lone wild elephant roaming in Mawanella area has already attacked and killed two people.
