Fifth Edition of Yugam '17 flagged off today at Kumaraguru College of Technology.


The fifth edition of KCT Yugam '17 a National Level Techno Cultural Fest was flagged off today at Kumaraguru College of Technology. This annual event is a conglomeration of workshops, technical, cultural events, inspirational talks and pro shows.Stimulating the youth to elevate their aspirations and stand tough against the challenges is the objective of the event.

Ravi Kandasamy, Head of Programme, Management Office while addressing the media shared that, 'Yugam '17 is scheduled from 9th to 11th February. Close to 11,000 participants from 150 colleges around the South Zone is expected to participate in the event. 'Yugam' was launched in 2013, with an ultimatum to provide a platform for the students to showcase their skills and potential. Thus empowering them and creating an opportunity for them to interact with students of other colleges and develop their network. A plethora of events will take place every year, during Yugam, which is completely managed and organized by the students. Thereby, it enables them to empower their organizing skills.



Vigilesh, Head Co-Ordinator of Office of Student Affairs shared that, 'Apart from these events there is a social theme associated with every edition of KCT's Yugam. This year, the theme is 'Women Empowerment'. Hence, the event is focused towards empowering and upliftment of women. There are 38 clubs like NCC,YRC,NSS etc through which we have adopted few villages under the campaign " Nammadhu Pangu" (means our contribution) where the college provides facilitates tuition for government school kids, conduct skill development programme for women'. 

This edition of KCT Yugam'17 has nearly 60 technical events, 50 cultural events and 30 workshops. A sports event, named Dr.N.Mahalingam South India Basketball Trophy 2017 was included for the first time this year and 8 best teams from Tamil Nadu participated in the event.



Inspirational talk on 'Breaking Barriers' was organized which had guest lectures delivered by enterprising women like Ms.Mira Edra (Professional Racer), Ms.Shefali Dadabhoy( Entreprenuer), Ms. Nibha Namboodiri(Conservationist). Th topic "Heroes Unlimited" was delivered by Mr.Annadurai (Rider),Mr.Murthy Megavan (Surfing), Mr,Sekar (Birdman), Mr.Balaji (Maa ULA) and Mr. Harigaran (Entrepreneur-School) was very well received and appreciated by the audience.

The upcoming events include 'Ability Swagatham', a blend of Music, Dance & Humor, 'Engeyum Eppothum' a musical event by Anil Srinivasan, Madan Karky, Leon James, Sathyaprakash and Sadhya. The entry fee for students is Rs.250 and the events will be happening continuously from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm.
