Massive fire breaks out at old iron and plastic shop in Gudalur; Goods worth Rs. 5 lakh destroyed in fire

The fire broke out at an old iron and plastic shop on the Gudalur-Devarshola highway, with the fire spreading to the second floor, and destroying goods worth Rs. 5 lakh.



Nilgiris: An old iron and plastic shop in a commercial complex on the highway from Gudalur to Devarshola in the Nilgiris district, is owned by Hussain.



A fire broke out on Saturday morning at the shop where a large number of old items were stored. On seeing this, neighbours in the area immediately informed the Gudalur fire department.



Before the fire brigade reached the spot, the fire had spread to the second floor. Fire Department officials had to fight hard for an hour to bring the fire under control.



Old iron and plastic items worth about Rs. 5 lakh were destroyed in the fire. The Gudalur police have registered a case and are investigating if the fire was due to an electric leakage or if miscreants set the store on fire.
