Coimbatore District Collector TN Hariharan has issued an order to all TASMACs to remain closed tomorrow in connection with the 'Vallalar Ramalinga Adigal Memorial day'.
Arutprakasa Vallalar Chidambaram Ramalingam known better Vallalar was a famous Tamil Saint/Poet of the 19th century. Every year in the Tamil Month of Thai (January 14th to February 15th) Vallalar day is celebrated on the day of Posam star. This year the day falls on 9th February.
'All TASMAC shops and the bars attached to the shops will remain closed on 9th February as the birth anniversary of Vallalar is observed on that day. Legal action will be initiated on persons/entities who are found to be selling liquor on 9th February.' District Collector said.
A press release from the Corporation Commissioner P. Gandhimathi has stated that all Corporation-managed abattoirs will also remain closed for Vallalar day. Similarly, all wholesale and retail meat shops dealing mutton, chicken, beef and pork in the city will also strictly remained closed.
Those found violating the orders will face severe legal action and penalties, warned Corporation Commissioner (in-charge).
