Welfare assistance provided to construction workers in Coimbatore

Ponkumar, chairman of the Welfare Board, distributed welfare assistance to more than 800 beneficiaries who were registered with the Construction Workers Welfare Board at a function held at Ramanathapuram in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: A review meeting was held at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Labour at Ramanathapuram under the chairmanship of Ponkumar, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board. Discussions were held with the trade unions on the issue of providing welfare assistance to the workers registered with the Welfare Board without any delay and to improve the Welfare Boards.



In Coimbatore district, Rs 17,89,200 was given as educational assistance to the children of 764 workers registered with the Construction Workers Welfare Board and Rs 3,35,000 to the nominees of 11 workers who died naturally.

Orders for welfare assistance worth Rs 23,89,200 were issued to a total of 879 beneficiaries, including Rs 1,2,000 to the next of kin of a worker who died in work accident and Rs 1,3,000 to 103 newly sanctioned pensioners.



Coimbatore Regional Joint Commissioner of Labour Leelavathi, Assistant Commissioner of Labour Gayathri and trade union representatives, workers and the general public were present on the occasion.
