Police seize Rs.80 lakhs in cash from bus passenger in Coimbatore for lack of proper documents

Kumar, a native of Karur district was travelling in a bus to Coimbatore but was taken to the police station after an argument broke out between him and the bus conductor. It was found that Kumar was carrying Rs.80 lakhs in cash in his bag without proper documents.



Coimbatore: Kumar, a native of Karur district, who was travelling to Coimbatore had reportedly not taken a ticket for the handbag that he was carrying with him in the bus, in spite of the conductor's insistence.

This led to an argument between the conductor and Kumar, following which the bus was driven straight to the Kattoor police station where a complaint was lodged against Kumar.

Thereafter, the Kattoor police interrogated Kumar and checked the bag. They found bundles of cash in the bag which totalled to Rs. 80 lakhs. During further investigation, Kumar said that he was carrying the money to provide finances.



But when questioned about proper documents for the money he was carrying, Kumar had no answers. The police investigated Kumar further and then informed the Income Tax officials.

Following this, the Income Tax officials reached the police station and are interrogating Kumar. Officials said that the money would be seized and legal action would be taken against Kumar if he did not furnish the required documents for carrying Rs. 80 lakhs in cash.
