Tamil Nadu govt raises procurement price of Milk; Milk Producers Association protests in Coimbatore demanding more

The Milk Producers' Association staged a protest near the Coimbatore South Tahsildar's office demanding a 10 per cent hike in the procurement price of milk in the wake of the steep rise in the price of fodder.


Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced a hike in the prices of cow's milk and buffalo milk.

Accordingly, the procurement price of cow's milk was increased from Rs 32 to Rs 35 per litre. Similarly, the procurement price of buffalo milk has been fixed at Rs 44 per litre from Rs 41 per litre.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers' Association staged a protest near the Coimbatore South Tahsildar's office, demanding a 10 per cent hike in the procurement price of milk.



The protest was led by Ilangovan, Coimbatore District President of the Milk Producers Association. The prices of fodder like bran, cotton seeds, cake and mixed fodder have gone up sharply. Hence, it was demanded that the procurement price of milk should be increased by 10 per cent per litre.

They also raised slogans demanding that the Chief Minister should call the milk producers and talk to them on the issue of milk price hike.

A tense atmosphere prevailed in the area for some time due to the protest.
