The number of people who are dying from cancer is increasing year after year. Experts point out that awareness alone can bring in change and save people from this killer disease. Any form of cancer when diagnosed in its early stage can be treated and cured. In order to spread the awareness of the causes, symptoms and treatment available for cancer among women, NGO India Turns Pink Foundation was established in the year 2010. This NGO has a presence in the leading metros in our country and today, on World Cancer Day, India Turns Pink Foundation will start its ambitious awareness campaign in our city, Coimbatore.

Ahead of the formal launch, founder of this NGO, Anand Kumar shares with SimpliCity “Only by spreading awareness among the public about this killer disease, the number of lives that are lost due to cancer can be brought down, our focus is women particularly the college goers. Of all cancers, a majority of women suffer from breast cancer. In order to spread the awareness about this disease in Coimbatore, we have chosen ten women from various fields. At our launch this evening, we will formally introduce our Pink Ambassadors. These women will in turn spread the awareness about breast cancer among other women in this city.”
Currently, this is how this NGO works in the metropolitan cities too. Apart from appointing pink ambassadors, India Turns Pink Foundation also reaches out to college students. Its founder shares with us that a team of specialists trains a few chosen college students on how to identify breast cancer through self-examination. The volunteers in each college educate the other students of their respective college on the self examination techniques.
“Just like India fought and won our battle against polio, I am confident if we work in the right direction, we can have a cancer-free society by 2030.” Anand Kumar says. India Turns Pink Foundation will induct its Pink Ambassadors at a function that will be hosted at the Coimbatore International Airport this evening. This programme is scheduled to begin at 4 pm.
