As a part of the on-going 'Coimbatore Vizha' between 27th January to 5th February, various enticing events are being hosted everyday in the city. In this connection, Mohammed Saleem, President of Environment Conservation Group conducted an awareness camp on birds for the students of various educational institutions.

An interaction session on birds was conducted on 31st January, at the Ksir's International School for students. During the session Saleem interacted with the students on the importance of birds in maintaining the balance of our ecology, their nature and habitats. The students were also thrown light on 'birding as a hobby' and how it helps us stay aligned with nature, de-stress ourselves and importantly observing birds helps us sharpen our reflex and instills patience in us.
Today, the students of Annan Kids Academy took part in the session. The Principal and Correspondent of the Institution welcomed and thanked Saleem for his time and sharing his knowledge with the students. 'It's aptly remarked that Coimbatore is a paradise for bird watchers. Surrounded by hills and mountains on all sides, the rich biodiversity and wetlands are not only home for the native birds but migratory birds as far from North pole also visit our city. Hence, this part of the geographical area is most preferred by bird watchers and naturalists to spot birds, Saleem said.

The students showed keen interest on the subject and gained a lot on birds and our city's geography. During the interaction session, the students raised several doubts on birds and how bird watchers spot birds followed by a detailed photographic presentation on various species of birds spotted in Coimbatore was exhibited to the students. The students were also requested not to buy birds as pets, as it's illegal to have the birds captured from forests as pets. Many of these exotic birds are captured from the wild and sadly during the transit, those birds die or get hurt.
At the end of the session, the students assured that they wouldn't engage in anti-wildlife activities and
help to conserve the ecology.
