Elephants menace at the Varatuparai estate near Valparai

A herd of 5 wild elephants that camped at the Varatuparai Estate near Valaparai at midnight damaged the shops and some houses. The elephants that came in search of food destroyed a tea shop and also damaged the building.



The elephants also destroyed the roof tiles of a Anbu Cheliyan’s home nearby. The cow shed which was constructed by the estate management was also damaged by the elephants. The people who were living in the vicinity spent the night in fear due to the attacks. The elephants are damaging the houses of the tea workers located in various estates. The people from Valaparai have requested the forest department officials to take action to drive the elephants back into the forests.
