The forest department officials at the Mudhumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) are making all efforts to prevent eruption of forest fire during the upcoming summer at this range by creating a vegetation-free patch by burning all dry grass and shrubs.

Speaking on this, Ranger Arokiasamy of MTR range briefed that ' Process of setting up fire prevention lines is done to ensure stoppage of fire spreading into the interior of the forests, in case of fire. The ashes that gets deposited by burning the dry grasses and shrubs will enable to stop the fire from spreading. Hence, fire prevention lines are created up to a length of 15 kms along the fringes adjacent to the road with the help of 31 workers and 11 forest rangers'.
