Clad in the colour of peace, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women celebrated the republic day with great patriotic spirit. Dr. P.R. Krishnakumar, Chancellor of the university, who presided over the function hoisted the national flag and took the salute. He offered his republic day wishes and implored the students to work for the welfare of the nation with the "conscience of a good citizen". Dr. T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram, Managing Trustee of Sri Avinashilingam Educational Trust Institutions, Dr. Premavathy Vijayan, Vice Chancellor, Dr. S. Kowsalya, Registrar of the university graced the occasion with their presence.
The chief guest, Dr. Vinu Aram, Director, Shanthi Ashram Foundation gave a vibrant speech about the importance of education in molding the citizens. Being an alumnus of Avinashilingam school she recalled her memorable school days and expressed her gratitude to the institution for having shaped her into a good citizen. "Khadhi is not just a fabric, it is a , symbol of commitment and patriotism" mentioned Dr. Vinu Aram and praised the institution for following the principles of Gandhiji and for having the white khadi saree as the uniform, which reflects patriotism. As the republic day message she stated that each one should aspire not only to be successful professionals but beyond that they should strive to become responsible and patriotic individuals.
The students of the Avinashilingam school performed a group drill for a patriotic song, the verses from the holy scriptures were read and the NCC students performed a energetic march-past. The function culminated with the national anthem. The staff and students of the Avinashilingam university, Avinashilingam school, the deans, the directors, the Hod of various departments, the headmistress Avinashilingam school, the school authorities and the non-teaching staff attended the function.
